Meet the team

We’re Laura and Beth. We’re the beating heart of Pig Pen, but we’re not alone. We have a network of deliciously talented writers that we can call on for larger scale projects. Or those that need to be delivered, like, yesterday.

Why Pig Pen Copy?

There are lots of great freelance copywriters out there. And while we don’t like to blow our own trumpet(!) we think we’ve got the edge. Here’s why…

  • With years of experience across both agency and editorial settings, we know the importance of delivery and deadlines. We work across the whole content lifecycle, from initial planning to copy delivery.

  • Our collaborative approach with agency and internal teams means we’re quick to get under the skin of any subject matter and tone of voice.

  • In a ‘working how you want to’ way, rather than a ‘bendy yoga’ way, unfortunately. Whatever you need, we tailor our support to suit. So whether it’s a one-off webpage or full support with strategy, we can help. And if you need something on short notice, we can call on our network to make that happen.

  • We have minimal overheads and a lean business model: you only pay for the services you use. We‘ll agree costs up front and can work on a project basis or on a daily rate. So you can dip into extra support as and when you need it, without having to make a long-term commitment.

The Pig Pen journey

We’ve known each other nearly 30 years. We met at school, and it didn’t take long to discover a mutual love of books and words…we were quite nerdy.

Before we started Pig Pen, our separate career paths covered client services, marketing, PR, editorial and copywriting. We talked for years about joining our professional forces before finally making the leap in 2019. And we’ve never looked back.

What’s in a name?

It’s a question we get asked a lot: Why Pig Pen? Well….

In the hot and heady summers of the mid-90s, we could most often be found on Bournemouth beach, sunbathing or floating out to the pier on our rubber ring to flirt with the boys who ran the paragliding (bear with us, this is going somewhere). Lunch was invariably at McDonald’s where we thought nothing of eating a burger and fries followed by an apple pie. We were teenagers. We had the metabolisms of a race horse.

We ate so much junk food that we started to refer to ourselves as Hog Bags. It amused us then… still does now, to be honest. And we started to buy each other pig stuff, too. Which is a tradition that continues to this day.

So, you see, pigs have always been close to our hearts. And the pen bit…well, hopefully that’s pretty self-explanatory.
