Why blogging is like jogging

When we talk to clients about content, our mantra is: it doesn’t have to be frequent, but it does have to be regular.

But as far as our own content goes, we haven’t been following our own advice. In fact, the last blog we wrote was in 2019. We’ve changed the whole website since then, but we’re only just starting to revisit the blog section. Why?

Our excuses are numerous and varied, but please know that we’re not lazy. We don’t spend our time lounging around, being wafted by palm leaves and fed grapes on demand (sadly).

In the main, it’s because we were a bit blindsided by the pandemic.

For us, as for many others, it’s been a strange old time. During the lockdowns, we had an awful lot of work coming in, which was amazing. In parallel to this, we had homeschooling, which was a little less amazing.

The blogs were put off, and put off again, until they became little more than a niggling idea that there was something we really ought to be doing.

Isn’t it always the way? Something’s got to give, and when you’re working hard, promoting your own business gets sidelined. Making it a priority feels oddly self-indulgent. But it’s not.

Which is why we’ve started to think of blogging as a bit like going to the gym.

You know it’s good for you. You know you’ll be stronger in the long term if you make the effort in the short term. You know you’ll get a buzz once it’s done.

And yet….

It takes energy. You need to work up a mental sweat. You’ve got to fit it in around the rest of your day. And you’ll have to have a shower afterwards (yes, ok, that’s where the similarity ends).

So from now on, we’re committed to sculpting some finely toned words on a regular basis. We’ll beef up our library of advice. We’ll bring speed and stamina to our thoughts and opinions. We’ll stretch our imaginations with some flexible thinking.

And we’ll meet you in the coffee shop afterwards for a cake.

PS - while we can’t go to the gym on your behalf, we can plan and write any content for you. From a website revamp to ongoing content planning. So give us a shout if you’re also too busy to blog.
